The Gutters Are Clean!!

Posted by heymoe on June 17th, 2007

Casey and Lindsay offered the use of a pickup truck yesterday to try and bring a ladder home that was tall enough to reach my 2nd floor gutters. After looking over the ladders that were tall enough and the size of the bed of the truck we decided that it was not going to be safe since over half of the ladder would end up sticking out from the back of the truck. I do want to thank Casey and Lindsay for taking the time out of their weekend and for offering the use of the pickup. In any case I remember seeing over at Lowes that you could rent trucks for hauling stuff home so I headed over there today to see what my options were. Sure enough they rented trucks for $19 / 75mins and it was more then long enough to safely stick big ladder in the back. Since I don’t live too far from the Lowes I decided to buy the 28 foot ladder with the idea that I would have enough time with the truck rental to get it home make sure it was tall enough and if not return it for the 32 footer. I hopped the 28 foot would do it since it was 20lbs lighter then the 32 footer which would make it easier for me to maneuver the ladder by myself. Sure enough I got it home and set it up and it was just the right size for me to get up to the 2nd floor gutters. It’s not tall enough to reach the tallest part of my house but I figured the gutters are really the only things I need to reach so I returned the truck to Lowes. Once I got back home I started to clean out the gutters. Sure enough pine straw was cause of the clogs at both ends of the gutter. Now all my gutters and clean but I noticed some rotting wood most likely caused by the over flow of the clogged gutter so I’ll have to take care of that now. It did not look bad so it should not be to big of a job to fix.

Conversion Night… Again…

Posted by heymoe on June 13th, 2007

Well, we are converting another new customer to our system so I’m up late working the conversion. Hopefully this one will go smoothly and not keep me up to late past my bed time…

…Two hours and thirty or so minutes later…

Well, this took a lot longer then it should have. Between not knowing which way a web site needed to be pointed and radius changes which took way too long, the conversion is done. Freaking VoIP phone or Time Warner or conference bridge started to piss me off since I kept getting dropped but nothing told me I was dropped until I got an IM from the on-site guy asking where I went. Blah.. Time for bed.

Update: Sunflowers 2007

Well with all the rain and sunshine we have been getting since the last update, the sunflowers have grown quite a bit. The tallest plant which was 2 feet 8 inches in my last update is now 5 feet 2 inches. Including the pot, it’s almost as tall as I am now. One of the plants next to the mailbox is now as tall as the mailbox (About 4 feet). I’ve noticed that even though there are no flowers yet, the plants seem to attract ants and other bugs. As far as I can tell they don’t seem to be hurting the plants so I let them be. I wish I had a better camera so I could take some good closeups of the critters but I’m not done with my research yet. I will tell you one thing for sure, they drink a lot of water. I was watering them every other day until I can home and found them very droopy. They perked up quickly though after a good drink so now I water them everyday.

I’ve Got Power!

Posted by heymoe on June 10th, 2007

At around 9pm last night my area got hit by a severe thunderstorm that seemed to come out of no where. Granted I did not look at the weather channel yesterday so it might have been predicted but who knows. In any case we had heavy winds and rain. I even think their might have been some small hail from the sounds I was hearing off the roof and windows. One of my sunflower plants got knocked over but seems to be doing fine after I placed it up-right again. Of course power got knocked out which sucked since it was only around 9pm. After trying to find something to do in the dark, I ended up trying to go to bed earlier then normal for me on a weekend (10:30pm instead of 2am hehe). In any case I was sure that by time I woke up power would be back on.. Wrong. I got up around 8:30am to the sound of my neighbor’s power generator. I should get one of those someday. Any ways I decided to take a shower (thank you gas water heater) and then head out to grab some breakfast. By time I got out of the shower the power was back on.. YEAH! This was around 9am so I was without power for around 12 hours. Hopefully the stuff in my fridge survived. Good thing I did not buy that ice cream last night.

OMG, Fear It!

Posted by heymoe on June 8th, 2007

It looks like the Creation Museum in Kentucky has opened and I have no words to describe my disbelief. I must say this picture of Eve standing in the Garden of Eden in a nice sun dress next to a “vegetarian” Velociraptor says a lot.

Silly Sunflowers

Posted by heymoe on June 4th, 2007

Well it pretty much rained all day Sunday, which was nice since we really needed the rain but it looks like the added weight of the rain on the leaves of three of my sunflower plants was more then their stalks could handle and they bent right over on their sides. I was able to get those standing up right again by using some support and today when I got home I was able to remove the supports and everything is back to normal. My biggest plant stood strong and did not have any problems while it was raining but to my surprise, when I got home, it was bent over so now it has supports. Silly sunflowers, make up your mind. No pictures for this update but will have some soon.
